Radio Presenter

A radio presenter works to present and prepare the shows for audiences. They present news, sports or other information, conduct interviews and introduce music, performances and special events on the radio. Many radio presenters work for radio stations that play music, meaning their shows can focus on music genres, eras of music or types of music that relate to each other. Some radio presenters work on talk shows or podcasts that wrap up a topic of interest, like celebrity news, dating advice or a specific genre of film or television. 

Radio presenters generally work for a particular radio station, which may be located either in the same location as their broadcasting facility or somewhere completely different. Most radio stations are found in cities and major towns, although some may be found in smaller, regional areas. Because the radio runs for a 24-hour, some radio presenters may be needed to work outside standard business hours. For example, they can present a breakfast program or a late-night program. However, many radio stations also pre-record programs that can be used to broadcast late at night. 

Radio presenters need to be aware of a radio broadcasting mixing desk and the tools that accompany it, such as CD or vinyl record players, external phone lines and computers. They need to be aware of on-air broadcasting techniques, and may also need to be familiar with digital or analogue recording and sound editing techniques, such as those used when gathering news stories or other radio presentations. Working as a radio presenter demands a strong set of specialised skills that match the radio industry. Most radio presenters have a complete understanding of recent events and know how to stay updated on news developments so they can include relevant information in their shows. Radio presenters also generally have strong interpersonal and communication skills, which help them to communicate effectively and respectfully with guests on air. Another skill that helps radio show presenters is experience using radio equipment, so they can use any technology their show needs.
