A plumbing inspector is a person who inspects plumbing work to make sure it follows the relevant standards and regulations. They examine and test different plumbing and drainage systems to make sure the piping has been installed correctly and that the system complies with local, state and federal codes. This service is typically needed for commercial and public-use buildings. As a plumbing inspector, their duties include reviewing construction plans, teaching building owners how to fix code violations and reporting any unresolved issues. Their inspection is both visual and mechanical; you must confirm the project utilizes the proper piping size, connections, trap seals and cleanouts and that the contractors only use approved materials, devices, fixtures and equipment.
Plumbing inspectors make on-site inspections at multiple stages of construction to determine how the pipes, fixtures, drainage system, gas lis water supply system are being installed. They review workmanship, work materials and layout of the system to make sure that they are as per the approved plans and legal standards. In case of a problem binge detected, the inspector reports non-compliance, gives advice on how to take corrective measures and carries out the following inspection to make sure the remedies have been taken.

At least three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications listed above. In some examples, relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be needed in addition to the formal qualification. Registration or licensing may be demanded.
