Photographer

A photographer is a person who creates and captures images using a camera. They have good knowledge of capturing moments to tell stories using images. They work with art teams, understand specifications and create concepts to create visual records. A Photographer’s role involves taking photographs, processing images and making sure they satisfy the desired results. They also use editing techniques, maintain and operate photography equipment and follow specifications for lighting, composition and background. A Photographer’s purpose is to make good-quality images that speak visually and deliver emotions. 

Photographers use different tools and methods to make their images attractive. They can use traditional film cameras or modern digital cameras as well as a mix of lenses and lighting tools. They may also use post-processing software to edit and improve their images. Photographers may specialise in a particular type of photography such as portrait, geography, fashion or documentary and may work freely or as part of a team. With growing demand for visual content on social media, the role of the photographer has gained even more popularity in capturing and sharing images that inspire, inform and bring together people around the world.

A professional photographer may be an employee, for example, they can be an employee of a newspaper agency, or may be part of a contract to cover a particular planned event, such as a wedding or graduation, or to show an advertisement. Other photographers, like fine art photographers, are freelancers who first make an image and then license or make printed copies of it for sale or display. Some workers, such as crime scene photographers, estate agents, journalists and scientists, make photographs as part of their other work. Photographers who make moving stuff rather than motionless pictures are usually called cinematographers, videographers or camera operators, depending on the commercial context.
