A Patents Examiner is a professional with specialisation to assess the patent applications and decide whether the inventions should qualify as a patent. As employees in the offices of intellectual property or other regulatory authorities. Patent examiners are very instrumental in protecting the concept of innovation by ensuring that patents awarded are new, innovative and industrially viable. Patents Examiners look at the detailed technical descriptions, drawings and claims made by the inventor or patent lawyer. Based on this review, they evaluate adherence to patent legislation and submit reports of examination with a description of findings, opposition or endorsement.

This position requires good analytical skills, a keen eye and the ability to communicate well through writing. Examiners should come up with well-articulated reports that are transparent and explain the decision made. Time management is also significant since they may be dealing with several applicants with specific examination schedules.
