Their tasks include providing food and water, keeping the kennels clean and playing with and walking the dogs to keep them safe and healthy.
The purpose of the Kennel Hand is to make sure that the kennel facility runs smoothly while ensuring the animals remain safe and well cared for. Some specific duties and responsibilities to incorporate into your job description for Kennel Assistant positions include giving food and water to animals according to care plans, washing the kennels and common areas, taking animals for walks and playing with them to make them feel comfortable and watching animals and reporting any problems with their behaviors or health, groom and bathe the animals and give medications or treatments to animals as directed by a Veterinarian. Apart from this, they also greet customers, process transactions and answer phone calls, documenting all care provided and any incidents that occur.

In Australia:
AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV ANZSCO Skill Level 3.
In New Zealand:
NZ Register Level 4 qualification ANZSCO Skill Level 3
At least three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications listed above. In some instances relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification. Registration or licensing may be needed.
