Industrial Designer ANZSCO Code 232312

An Industrial Designer is a creative problem solver who uses their artistic vision, combined with technical expertise, to create products that are both functional, attractive and easy to use. They are also significant in determining the routine objects that individuals interact with, consumer electronics, furniture, along with machinery, appliances and innovative technological solutions. They start with the understanding of the user needs, market trends, and the reason behind the product so that they can make the solution a balance between aesthetics and usability, as well as sustainability and production efficiency.

Industrial designers carry out a lot of research, sketch, create prototypes and work hand in hand with engineers, manufacturers and marketing departments to actualise ideas. They apply the latest design software and tools in visualising ideas on 2D and 3D, and make sure that all the details are taken into account, including ergonomics and materials, cost, and durability. They are experienced in the ability to translate creative ideas into real products that can be produced on a large scale without losing quality and design integrity.

This career entails high levels of creativity, having a sense of space, and strong knowledge in manufacturing, whereby they have to do moulding, fabrication, assembly and materials engineering. Industrial designers also have to remain abreast of sustainable design, new technologies, as well as emerging customer desires in order to produce modern, responsible and competitive products. By creating products that capture the values of a company and increasing the interaction of a customer, industrial designers add a lot to the brand identity and customer experience. Their work is among the factors that shape the way individuals view and relate with products in their day-to-day lives, and therefore, they are an indispensable part of industries including automotive, electronics, furniture, medical and consumer industries. An industrial Designer is an important figure in the realm of creativity and pragmatism, where innovation and design thinking can be applied to enhance products and design solutions that are inspiring, work flawlessly, and are unique in the market
