A counsellor works as an advisor who gives advice related to career and personal issues. Sometimes they talk with people to help them identify and define their emotional issues through treatments such as mental behavioural therapy, interpersonal therapy, and other talk therapies. They make a trustworthy relationship with people and understand their problems. They also set achievable goals and help them on their journey toward self-improvement.

There are many types of talk-based therapy. A counselor may sometimes work with a therapist or other health professional to provide complete and integrated care. Counseling gives hidden support. Which means the things you share and discuss with the counselor will be a secret between you and the counselor and will not be shared with anyone. The exception is only when the counselor feels something is wrong, they can share it with others, because they think about your well-being or the well-being of others. This legal requirement will be explained to you at your first counseling session. As a profession that offers so much variety from day to day, the average day for each counselor can vary greatly.
