The full-time Cotton Grower will be responsible for assisting in the operational management and improvement of farms to ensure that maximum yields and quality are met. This person will conduct operations and also oversee production and marketing operations at times in conjunction with the owner. You will be accountable for meeting daily operational requirements of the farm, in support of the annual business plan, to achieve maximum productivity and profitability through innovative, sustainable farming practices. You will organise and conduct cotton farming operations and will be involved in all cotton farming activities, including supervising spraying and irrigation, and supervision of staff and contractors. You must hold a relevant bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2 years of experience or at least 5 years of previous experience in the same role.

The main responsibilities for a cotton grower will be such as planning, planting, harvesting and operational activities throughout the year.  Maintain cotton production by cultivating and maintaining optimal growing conditions. Organise and conduct farming operations, such as collecting, storing, grading and packaging cotton, and organising the sale, purchase and dispatch of cotton. Planning and overseeing the provision and maintenance of infrastructure such as equipment, machinery, sheds and water supply systems and irrigation systems.  Directing and overseeing general farming activities to maintain cotton health by managing biosecurity and other risks and controlling pests and weeds. Ensure a safe, clean and environmentally compliant work environment and build a culture where safety is a priority and maintain farm infrastructure.  Maximise cotton production within budgeted costs.  Maintain farm buildings, fences, equipment and water supply systems. Maintaining farming records and reporting to owners, and ensuring contractual obligations are met.  Overseeing the workplace culture on the farm, also monitors market activity, and plans crop preparation and production to meet contract requirements and market demand. Ensure growing methods meet the quality requirements of wholesalers. Assist in the management of seasonal workers. Assist in the preparation of budgets, including capital expenditure, wage and production running costs. Maintain workplace, health and safety standards and always adhere to company policies and procedures.

To be considered for this role, you must have extensive experience in cotton cropping, sound agronomic knowledge of agricultural chemicals, the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, a commitment to improve farm efficiency and profitability, experience in operating and maintaining a range of modern farming machinery, experience in management and supervision, and staff experience in organising and conducting farming operations

  • Planning and coordinating the production and marketing of crops, such as grain, cotton, sugar cane, fruit and nuts, vegetables, turf and flowers, from soil preparation to harvest, taking into account environmental and market factors.
  • Selecting and planting seeds, seedlings, and bulbs, and grafting new varieties to root stocks.
  • Maintaining crop production by cultivating, de-budding, and pruning, and maintaining optimal growing conditions.
  • Organising and conducting farming operations, such as collecting, storing, grading, and packaging produce, and organising the sale, purchase, and dispatch of produce.
  • Directing and overseeing general farming activities such as fertilising and pest and weed control.
