A civil engineering technician is a professional who helps with civil engineering tasks, such as collecting data, conducting research, monitoring construction progress and helping plan new projects. They give their support to create Buildings, bridges, roads, railways, airports and dams. They have less education than civil engineers and do not require licensing, so civil engineers supervise their work and provide advice to the technicians. Additionally, in some of the workplaces there are the chances that a civil engineering technician may get promoted to the position of civil engineering technologist, after gaining some experience and specialized skills.
A civil engineering technician works under the supervision and guidance of an senior person or team of civil engineers. They do multiple tasks like understanding the site diagrams, soil samples, also they set up and maintain equipment to measure vehicle or pedestrian traffic, and make visits on site to collect data and photographs. They also draft a plan with the help of CAD, check the total project cost and do research. They install new updates planned by engineers and troubleshoot problems during construction projects. They also manage to do small-scale assembly work to make prototypes and models. The civil engineering technician must have a good understanding of science and maths concepts.
