The role of a Chemistry Technician is important in many areas like chemical manufacturing, environmental testing, pharmaceuticals, and mining. Technicians provide required technical support to chemists and chemical engineers. Their main job is to execute various tasks in the laboratory, like preparing solutions, operating advanced analytical instruments (like, chromatographs and spectrometers), and working on complex chemical tests on samples of organic and inorganic materials.
A Chemistry technician plays an important role and is responsible for carefully recording and analyzing data to ensure that the data is correct and safe and passes all the quality control protocols. They also fix material and equipment, maintain laboratory inventory and provide assistance in development and approve the test procedures. The occupation comes under the Skill Level 2 of the ANZSCO, and this generally requires formal qualification at the diploma level or higher degree in the relevant area like, Laboratory Technology or Applied Chemistry. This study involves both theoretical and practical knowledge and provides hands-on experience which is important for interpreting test results, identifying potential problems, and making significant contributions to the research, development, and quality check process.
